Mobile PCR Thermocyclers
Franklin®
Franklin®
A hand‑portable real‑time qPCR analyser that delivers lab‑quality detection at the point of need. Run up to 27 targets in a single assay (3 targets × 9 wells) or test 9 samples in parallel, with quantitative or qualitative results in < 60 minutes. Operators can view Cq values and amplification plots on the companion app and export results immediately for incident records or surveillance reporting. At ≈ 1.20 kg with an internal battery (~ 5 hours), it’s built for field deployment, not just the bench.
Why teams choose this analyser
- Speed with confidence: Sample‑to‑answer typically 30–60 minutes with clear Cq/amp‑plot visualisation.
- True multiplexing: Detect up to 27 targets in one run (9 wells; 3 fluorescence channels).
- Portable & self‑powered: ≈ 1.20 kg device with internal battery for ~ 5 hours operation; AC power supported.
- Simple operation in PPE: Bluetooth‑linked smartphone control, guided workflows, and integrated barcode scanning for sample traceability.
- Flexible chemistry & kits: Works with lyophilised Go‑Strips and custom assays; optional integrated sample‑prep (Franklin ISP) variant available when you want extraction/purification automated on‑board.
How it works
Load your prepared sample (20 µL per well) into a 3‑well strip, place the strips into the 9‑well block, and start the run from the mobile app. The instrument thermocycles and reads 3 colour channels (e.g., FAM/SYBR, TexasRedX, ATTO647N depending on configuration), then pushes Cq values and amplification curves to the app for decision‑making and reporting.

Typical applications
- Public health & outbreak response: near‑patient pathogen detection and triage.
- Defence & biodefence: forward qPCR screening for CBRN bio‑surveillance and confirmatory follow‑up.
- Field research & environmental testing: rapid genetics and microbial monitoring where lab access is limited.
Options & integrations
- Configuration options: one9 / two9 / three9 (3‑channel) fluorescence.
- Integrated sample prep: choose Franklin® ISP for automated extraction/purification when you want true sample‑to‑answer on one device.
- Assays & consumables: Go‑Strips (lyophilised multiplex assays) and custom assay support.
FAQs
How many samples or targets can we run at once?
Either 9 samples × up to 3 targets each, or 1 sample × up to 27 targets total.
Is it quantitative?
Yes — view Cq values and curves; run qualitative or quantitative methods.
What’s the typical turnaround?
≈ 30–60 minutes, assay dependent.
Can we automate extraction?
Yes — select the Franklin ISP configuration for integrated sample prep.
