Portable Decontamination Workstation
F1D|MDS-1X™ & F1D|MDS-4X™ Modular Decontamination Systems
F1D|MDS-1X™ & F1D|MDS-4X™ Modular Decontamination Systems
Build a practical contamination control area (CCA) in minutes. The Modular Decontamination System (MDS) range is designed to give response teams a compact, man-portable decontamination workstation and CCA solution for rapid deployment when time, space, and operational simplicity matter.
Both the MDS-1X and MDS-4X configurations centre on a fold-out stand and a defined “hot to cold” workflow using a pop-up shuffle pit, with an attached wash basin to support decontamination of recoverable equipment. The platform is also designed to be scalable, so you can expand capacity by adding stations as your team size and throughput requirements increase.
Choose your capacity
| Configuration | Best for | Throughput capacity | Set-up time | Transport & weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MDS-1X | Single team / small deployments, quick CCA establishment | Up to 16 persons | Approx. 120 seconds (manufacturer stated) | 1 bag, approx. 13 kg Approx. 51 cm × 46 cm × 30 cm packed size |
| MDS-4X | Higher-throughput operations and larger teams | Up to 64 persons | Scalable configuration set-up listed at < 10 minutes | 2 transport bags, approx. 26 kg each (52 kg total) Approx. 71 cm × 46 cm × 38 cm per bag |
Core system design (common to both)
- Workstation + waste management concept: fold-out aluminium stand with a Cordura® tool skirt/workstation skirt and waste bin functionality.
- Defined contamination control: a pop-up shuffle pit used to create a clear hot-to-cold workflow (approx. 1.2 m × 1.2 m).
- Recoverable equipment support: a wash basin attaches to the stand to support cleaning of equipment and tools prior to packaging or removal.
- No mains power requirement: designed for field use where powered infrastructure may be limited.
Typical kit inclusions (field-ready accessories)
Contents can vary by configuration and procurement requirements. Typical MDS inclusions are listed below to help buyers understand the operational intent of the system.
- Hazardous material disposal bags and 6 mil poly bags
- Cable ties (zip ties), labels and marker/pen for identification and control
- EMT shears and a folding hook knife (with light)
- Wash mitt and a transport water bladder (approx. 9.5 L)
- Hand inflation pump and shuffle pit components
- Decontamination media containment/organisation components
- Rugged Cordura® transport carrier sized to suit the selected configuration
Decontamination media compatibility
The MDS platform is designed to support both wet and dry decontamination approaches. Manufacturer-stated media options commonly referenced with these configurations include wet media (such as D7 BDAS+, D7 DF-200 and surfactant) and dry media (activated carbon powder). The MDS-4X is described as media agnostic, enabling user-defined media selection where required.
Operational considerations
- Training & consistency: the system is designed for rapid set-up and re-stow to support repeated training and operational readiness.
- Waste & environmental controls: implement your organisation’s containment and disposal procedures for contaminated PPE, wipes, and packaging materials.
- Governance: decontamination outcomes depend on agent type, dwell time, technique, and SOP compliance—always follow your CBRN/HazMat procedures and SDS guidance.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between MDS-1X and MDS-4X?
MDS-1X is intended as a single-station capability (up to 16 persons), while MDS-4X increases throughput and capacity (up to 64 persons) using a scalable approach for larger operations.
Is the system portable?
Yes. Both configurations are designed to be man portable. MDS-1X is supplied as a single packed system, while MDS-4X is supplied as a larger, multi-bag configuration for higher capacity deployments.
Does it require electricity?
The MDS is positioned for field use with no mains power requirement, supporting deployment in austere or rapidly changing environments.
Can we scale beyond these two configurations?
Yes. The MDS concept is presented as scalable, with examples of intermediate configurations (such as 2X) depending on team size and time limits.
