DNA-Safe Cyanoacrylate (Superglue) Fuming Chamber

MEGAfume Cyanoacrylate Fuming Chamber

MEGAfume is a premium cyanoacrylate (superglue) fuming chamber series designed to develop latent fingerprints on non-porous surfaces such as metal, glass and plastics. It was developed with the needs of accredited laboratories in mind—prioritising safety, quality, cleanliness, and consistent, repeatable processing.

These are described as DNA-safe chambers and are available in three configurations: the benchtop S61, the floor-standing M61, and the extra-large XL61 for higher volume workloads or oversized exhibits.

What MEGAfume is used for

Cyanoacrylate fuming is a recognised method for developing fingerprints on non-porous exhibits. MEGAfume is purpose-built to deliver controlled fuming conditions with strong operator visibility, while supporting laboratory expectations for cleanliness and documentation.

Why labs choose MEGAfume

  • 360-degree evidence visibility: exoskeleton design with tempered glass viewing panels and interior lighting supports excellent visibility while prints develop.
  • Modular stainless-steel evidence racks: racks and brackets can be removed/repositioned without special tools; they are stainless steel and sized to suit laboratory dishwashers.
  • Cleaning-friendly internal components: the air baffle, fan and water reservoir are removable; the anodised aluminium reservoir is designed to resist cyanoacrylate adhesion for easier wipe-down.
  • Touch-panel control and live monitoring: user-friendly control system with on-screen monitoring of cycle parameters and progress.
  • Pre-programmed and custom development cycles: one-touch options and customisable cycles for different cyanoacrylate developer types (including liquid/powder and fluorescent/non-fluorescent options).
  • Filter-life management: integrated filter management with on-screen indication of remaining filter life; filter replacement described as fast and tool-free.
  • USB process data logging: records parameters relevant to a development cycle for quality control and documentation, exportable via USB.
  • Secure door behaviour: door is automatically locked during development, with an option for PIN-secured access control.

Select the right size (S61 / M61 / XL61)

MEGAfume chambers are available in three sizes to suit both routine workflows and high-volume or oversized evidence processing.

Model Form factor External dimensions (H × W × D) Internal dimensions (H × W × D) Levels Chamber volume
S61 Benchtop 95 × 68 × 75 cm 75 × 58 × 61 cm 2 264 L
M61 Floor standing (on casters) 195 × 68 × 75 cm 125 × 58 × 61 cm 4 442 L
XL61 Extra large (on casters) 207 × 150 × 102 cm 185 × 141 × 69–85 cm 6 2,044 L

Note: Dimensions shown include the control display, as presented by the manufacturer.

Core technical specifications

  • XL61: approx. 140 cycles (with a standard amount of pure cyanoacrylate)

Optional accessories (to extend capability)

  • Specialised evidence racks & brackets: options described for items such as bottles/cans/handguns and longer exhibits (e.g., rifles, bats, pipes).
  • Starter development kit: described as including developer, pans, and assorted clips/hooks to begin processing.
  • UV-C decontamination unit: removable unit described for running UV-C cycles to help break down biological contamination (e.g., DNA).
  • Accessory storage box: designed to store racks/brackets/rods and UV-C units; described to fit under larger standing models.

Frequently asked questions

What types of evidence is MEGAfume suited to?

MEGAfume is designed for cyanoacrylate development of latent fingerprints on non-porous surfaces such as plastic, glass and metal.

What makes MEGAfume practical for accredited labs?

The series is positioned for accredited laboratories requiring high safety, quality and cleanliness, with features such as removable cleanable components, modular racks, process data logging and secure door controls.

How do we choose between S61, M61 and XL61?

S61 is the benchtop unit for routine workflows, M61 is a mid-size floor-standing unit, and XL61 is designed for higher volumes or oversized exhibits that won’t fit in standard chambers.
