Handheld VIS + IR Crime Scene Evidence Camera

SCENEview BV800

Find, confirm and document trace evidence faster—even on dark or patterned backgrounds. The SCENEview BV800 is a fully autonomous, handheld crime scene camera and video system designed for the search, analysis and documentation of evidence such as blood stains, blood spatter patterns, gunshot residue (GSR) and body fluids. It captures stills and video under visible light, and uses an IR-capable camera with integrated 850 nm illumination to help visualise evidence that can be difficult to see with the naked eye.

For teams that need flexibility at the scene, SCENEview BV800 can be expanded with the modular LIGHTcube forensic light source system (UV through to IR) to optimise contrast and, where applicable, induce fluorescence for improved visualisation and documentation of trace material.

Why teams choose SCENEview BV800

  • VIS + IR capability in one handheld system: capture images/video in visible light and use IR to support the search for dried blood and GSR via absorption/reflection effects.
  • Autonomous operation: integrated control computer enables recording at the scene without an external laptop or tablet.
  • Purpose-built for documentation: designed for evidence examination and repeatable capture of trace material under controlled lighting.
  • Expandable lighting options: compatible with modular LIGHTcube sources (UV to IR) to tailor lighting conditions to the evidence type.
  • Optional luminol sensitivity boost: available with an additional residual/ambient light amplifier camera option to increase sensitivity to luminol and similar enhancement chemistries.

Core capabilities

  • Evidence search and documentation: blood, blood spatter patterns, GSR, body fluids, fibres and more.
  • Integrated IR illumination: 850 nm IR light source plus red orientation light to support movement and work in low light.
  • Photo + video recording: capture stills and video during examination.
  • Manual and auto focus: one-handed operation supported via handle controls (auto focus in IR mode).
  • Integrated interfaces: includes USB connectivity and other ports located behind a dust protection cover at the base of the system.

Configuration overview

Standard VIS/IR configuration (BV800)

  • Camera: 5 MP VIS/IR monochrome/colour camera
  • Illumination: integrated 850 nm IR illumination + red orientation light
  • Recording: integrated controller for photo and video recording
  • Display: 6.5″ colour display
  • Filters: screw-on optical filters (37 mm) to enhance contrast (application dependent)

Optional: High-grade residual light amplifier (for luminol-style developers)

  • Amplification: up to ×70,000 (chemiluminescence wavelength amplification)
  • Imaging interface: 1.3 MP
  • Filter support: screw-on optical filter (37 mm) to enhance luminol luminescence contrast

Optional: LIGHTcube modular forensic light sources

  • UV to IR lighting options: add one or more LIGHTcubes to tailor your illumination to the evidence type.
  • Contrast and fluorescence support: adjust lighting conditions to increase contrast and make certain trace materials easier to see, document and collect.

Power and field practicality

  • Battery operation: supplied rechargeable batteries support typical operating time of > 60 minutes per battery (mode dependent).
  • Fast recharge: typical recharge time is under 30 minutes per battery (varies by configuration).
  • Optional mains power: mains supply is available as an option for extended operation or controlled environments.

What’s included (already in the basic kit)

Ideal for

  • Crime scene investigators (CSI) and forensic response teams
  • Blood stain and blood spatter search and documentation
  • GSR and trace evidence screening where IR imaging improves visibility
  • Scenes requiring modular UV-to-IR illumination (via LIGHTcube) for enhanced contrast/fluorescence
  • Low-light chemiluminescent workflows using luminol-style developers (with optional light amplifier)

Key details

  • Product: SCENEview BV800 (VIS & IR Evidence Search System)

Operational notes

  • Use trained operators and follow SOPs: evidence screening and documentation should be performed in accordance with organisational procedures.
  • Lighting safety: if using UV/alternate light sources, apply your standard eye and skin protection controls and observe site safety requirements.
  • Chemistry compatibility: if using luminol-type reagents, follow SDS guidance and validate your workflow for your casework needs.
