Modular UV–IR Alternate Light Source System

LIGHTcube Forensic Light Source

LIGHTcube is a modular, scalable forensic alternate light source (ALS) system designed for both crime scene deployment and laboratory workflows. Swap wavelengths in seconds, adjust intensity on demand, and build the exact configuration you need—without committing to a single “one-size-fits-all” light.

Each LIGHTcube module produces a specific light colour (wavelength) and can be combined with other modules on a single handle system. This makes it easier to tune contrast and, where applicable, support fluorescence-based visualisation when paired with the appropriate viewing goggles and camera filters.

Why teams choose LIGHTcube

  • Modular and scalable: combine multiple modules of the same wavelength for more output, or mix different wavelengths to suit the task.
  • Purpose-built for forensic use: designed for both laboratory and field operation, with fast changes between modules and configurations.
  • Intensity and angle control: adjust intensity from the control pad on each module; select beam patterns suited to searching or photography.
  • Fast, secure changeovers: quick-connection design allows modules to be swapped quickly and locked in place.
  • DNA-safe, easy-to-clean design: no cooling fans or vents that could disturb trace evidence or draw contaminants into the unit.
  • Matched filters and eye protection: colour-coded viewing goggles and camera filters help select the correct combination for the module in use.
  • Expandable ecosystem: add modules and accessories over time—build capability as operational requirements evolve.

How it supports fluorescence-based searching and documentation

When using narrow-band excitation light to generate fluorescence, the excitation light often needs to be filtered out so fluorescence can be seen more clearly. LIGHTcube supports this approach through wavelength-matched viewing goggles and camera filter options (including custom filter selections for existing camera systems).

Available wavelengths and white light options

LIGHTcube is a multispectral system with modules available from UV to IR, plus two white light colour temperatures. Modules are offered in different beam patterns (for example, narrow/focal and medium) to support both searching and photography.

Module colour Wavelength / colour temperature Typical use note
UV 365 nm UV excitation workflows (use appropriate PPE/eye protection)
Violet 410 nm High-contrast ALS searching and fluorescence excitation (application dependent)
Royal Blue 447 nm Fluorescence excitation / contrast enhancement (application dependent)
Blue-Green 470 nm Fluorescence excitation / contrast enhancement (application dependent)
Cyan 505 nm ALS contrast/fluorescence workflows (application dependent)
Pure Green 530 nm ALS contrast/fluorescence workflows (application dependent)
Orange 590 nm ALS contrast/fluorescence workflows (application dependent)
Red 630 nm ALS contrast/fluorescence workflows (application dependent)
IR 850 nm (plus additional IR options referenced by the manufacturer) IR searching/contrast applications (application dependent)
Neutral White 5000 K General examination and documentation lighting
Daylight White 6500 K General examination and documentation lighting

Power and deployment options

  • Corded battery pack: operate the handle system using a corded battery pack for mobility.
  • Cordless handle setup: operate with a battery attached to the handle for a cordless configuration.
  • Mains power: connect to mains power for bench-top and fixed-location workflows.

DNA-safe design and maintenance

LIGHTcube modules are designed without cooling fans and vents to support DNA-safe operation and reduce the risk of moving trace material or drawing debris into the system. Cooling is achieved via the metal housing (passive cooling), and the system monitors temperature to maintain safe operating conditions.

Accessories and expandability

  • Multiple modules on one handle: attach multiple modules to a single handle if required.
  • Camera and photography options: camera hot-shoe adaptors and filter options to support evidence photography workflows.
  • Mounting and workstation integration: compatible mounting/control accessories are available to expand lab and documentation capability.
  • Order modules individually or as kits: start with a fit-for-purpose configuration and add modules later.

Safety note

ALS modules can emit very intense light. Always follow your agency SOPs and use the correct eye protection and filters for the wavelength in use. Ensure operators understand photobiological safety requirements applicable to the module wavelengths being deployed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I expand the system later?

Yes. Modules can be ordered individually or as customisable kits, and additional modules/accessories can be added over time.

Can I combine modules?

Yes. LIGHTcube modules are designed to be scalable—combine the same wavelength for increased output or combine different wavelengths to suit the task.

What’s the difference between “F” and “M” module types?

The manufacturer uses labels to distinguish beam angles: some modules are designed for more focused/narrow beams and others for a medium beam angle that is often preferred for photography consistency.
