Flexible Extra-Large X-ray Mosaic Cassette System
Flex Ray 3×3 Velcro Mosaic System
Flex Ray 3×3 Velcro Mosaic System
The Flex Ray 3×3 Velcro Mosaic System is a mobile cassette kit that lets EOD, search and forensic teams build very large, stable X-ray panels in the field. Using nine FleX-Ray cassette envelopes, stabilising bars and Velcro mounting hardware, operators can assemble a 3×3 mosaic for 356 mm × 432 mm CR image plates, capturing complete images of doors, vehicle sides, freight and other oversized targets in a single exposure.
Based on the proven FleX-Ray cassette concept, this 3×3 configuration delivers significantly more coverage than 2×2 or 2×3 systems, while remaining light, portable and fast to deploy on real operations.
Key benefits
- Maximum large-area coverage: Nine cassette envelopes form a 3×3 grid, creating an extensive imaging area for vehicle sides, building façades and large containers.
- Stable support for CR plates: Each cassette houses a stiffener panel to keep 356 mm × 432 mm image plates flat and protected during positioning and exposure.
- Flexible Velcro mounting: Velcro-backed “sticky sticks” and tabs secure the mosaic to walls, doors, vehicle panels and other surfaces without improvised straps or tape.
- Consistent geometry and alignment: Stabilising bars and connection hardware help maintain even spacing and alignment between cassettes, improving mosaic accuracy and repeatability.
- Clear image referencing: Lead numbers, arrows and 25 mm steel reference balls can be placed on or between cassettes to mark points of interest and provide scale on every image.
- Field-ready build and colours: Envelopes and stabilising bars are supplied in Desert Tan or Black, with rugged construction suited to daily operational use.
Typical applications
- Full-height radiography of vehicle sides, doors and quarter panels.
- Mosaic imaging of large doors, roller shutters, lockers and building surfaces during high-risk search.
- Large freight, pallet and container imaging where single-plate coverage is insufficient.
- Forensic and post-blast investigations requiring complete coverage and precise reference marking.
- Training on advanced CR mosaic techniques for experienced X-ray operators.
What’s in the Flex Ray 3×3 kit
- Carry bag (×1): Padded carry bag to keep all cassettes and accessories organised and protected.
- FleX-Ray cassettes (×9): Cassette envelopes sized for 356 mm × 432 mm CR plates, each with an internal stiffener panel.
- Sticky sticks – 305 mm (×20): Velcro mounting sticks for attaching cassettes to smaller surfaces and tight areas.
- Sticky sticks – 610 mm (×20): Longer Velcro mounting sticks for spanning larger areas and adding extra support on vehicle panels, doors and walls.
- Steel reference balls (×9): 25 mm diameter steel balls used as density and scale references on images.
- Lead numbers (1–4): Lead number markers for identifying individual plates or specific locations within the mosaic.
- Grommet tabs (×24): Tabs that interface with sticky sticks and flat rings to secure and tension the mosaic layout.
- Flat rings (×12): Used with grommet tabs to link cassettes and stabilising bars.
- Wrap straps (×12): Straps for bundling cassettes, securing the built panel, or attaching the system to larger structures.
- Lead arrows (×9): Directional markers for highlighting points of interest, entry paths or critical components on the radiograph.
