Safe Starter for Thermite EOD

Thermite Initiated Starter (TIS)

The Thermite Initiated Starter (TIS), supplied by J3Seven, is a purpose-built electric starter designed to ignite a family of thermal EOD products. It provides a simple, repeatable way to initiate thermite systems such as TD‑A, LTT, Dragon Lance, TSID and Hot Drop using standard EOD exploders, without introducing additional high explosive into the task.

Classified as a UN3178 Class 4.1 flammable solid rather than an explosive, the TIS is easier to transport, handle and store than conventional detonators, while still giving EOD and demilitarisation teams a robust, pre‑assembled means of starting thermal charges.

Why EOD Teams Choose the TIS

Not classified as an explosive: The TIS is a flammable solid, UN3178, Hazard Class 4.1, Packing Group III. This reduces some of the complexities associated with explosive detonators and can simplify transport and storage under many regulatory frameworks.

Pre‑assembled and uncomplicated: Supplied as a complete, sealed unit with integrated electric starter and firing leads, reducing set‑up time in the field and avoiding on‑site assembly of ignition components.

Compatible with standard EOD exploders: Designed to be fired by typical EOD exploders, requiring at least 350 V at 6 Joules, so teams can use existing firing equipment and drills.

Clear electrical parameters: Recommended firing cable resistance below 12 Ohms supports predictable ignition and straightforward test and continuity regimes within unit SOPs.

Reduced hazard profile: As an electric starter for thermite rather than an HE detonator, the TIS supports low‑order, thermally driven neutralisation techniques that can minimise fragmentation and blast when used as part of the overall solution set.

Standardise your thermal EOD initiation with a dedicated, non‑explosive electric starter. Contact J3Seven to supply Thermite Initiated Starters (TIS) and associated thermal products, and to support integration into your EOD and demilitarisation capability across Australia and New Zealand.
