Area Mine Clearance System
GEN2 – Area Mine Clearance System
GEN2 – Area Mine Clearance System
GEN2 is Aardvark’s next‑generation, robotic area mine clearance system designed to deliver high clearance performance while keeping operators in a safe, stand‑off location. Built on decades of global mine clearance experience, GEN2 is engineered for de‑mining, explosive remnants of war (ERW) clearance and mobility support across C‑EO and C‑IED tasks.
From inception through design, GEN2 has been developed with input from military EOD operators and experts to ensure it performs across conventional and asymmetric threat environments. The result is a versatile platform that combines mechanical mine clearance, stand‑off investigation tools and advanced situational awareness to support route proving and mobility enhancement operations.
Key benefits
- IMAS-aligned clearance performance: Delivers a 3m mine clearance path at 1.5km/h to a depth of 300mm (IMAS), supporting efficient, repeatable area reduction and clearance operations.
- Stand‑off operations for maximum safety: Designed to undertake mine clearance and C‑EO/C‑IED tasks while the operator remains in a safe location with direct or remote overwatch.
- Proven mechanical effect: Every piece of ground is struck with the force required to disrupt, destroy and/or detonate surface and sub‑surface mines in its path (stated to a depth of up to 800mm).
- Survivability by design: Designed to survive the blast from stacked anti‑vehicle mines up to 21kg, helping maintain clearance rates while protecting the platform investment.
- Integrated detection and awareness: Supports stand‑off detection and protection with Aardvark FORSight™ and INSight™ sensor suites and optional tethered UAV overwatch.
- Versatile combat engineer toolset: Includes an auto‑contouring de‑mining flail and a high‑precision robotic manipulator arm for investigation, marking and remote tool deployment.
Clearance capability
- Clearance path: 3,000mm (3m)
- Clearance speed: 1.5km/h (typical stated clearance speed)
- Clearance depth: 300mm to IMAS standards
- Mechanical effect: Stated strike effect to disrupt/destroy/detonate mines to a depth of up to 800mm
Combat engineer tools and remote investigation
GEN2 combines world‑recognised mechanical clearance tools with precision investigation capability. The platform’s robotic manipulator arm is controlled via a boom‑mounted heavy‑duty camera to support identification and investigation of suspicious locations, including disguised IEDs, command wires and booby traps.
- Auto‑contouring de‑mining flail: Award‑winning flail capability designed for effective area clearance.
- Robotic manipulator arm: Multi‑purpose arm for remote investigation and combat engineer task support.
- Crane lift capability: When operated as a crane, the manipulator can lift up to 3,500kg at 6m.
- Excavation option: With a bucket fitted, the arm can dig to a depth of 5m.
- Threat marking options: Identified threats can be marked digitally (GPS) or with an optical marking device for dismounted engineers, including VR/AR support concepts.
- Recovery configuration: The manipulator can be configured with a recovery system to remove injured or incapacitated persons from a danger zone.
Detection and situational awareness
Detection, mapping and hazard reporting are critical to successful clearance operations. GEN2 can deploy Aardvark-developed sensor technologies to provide real‑time
situational awareness, helping increase platform protection and the overall level of assurance during operations.
- FORSight™ and INSight™ sensors: C‑EO residue and sub‑surface EO detection sensor suites for class‑leading stand‑off detection and vehicle protection.
- Tethered UAV overwatch: Optional auto‑deployable tethered VTOL UAV capability to enhance detection and situational awareness; integration with fixed‑wing UAV sensors is also supported.
Reliability and field maintenance
GEN2 is designed with reliability and availability as core features, with a bias towards field‑based servicing to reduce downtime and avoid unnecessary returns to base. Daily maintenance tasks can be carried out in the field with accessible fuel, water and hydraulic tanks. For larger maintenance tasks or damage replacement, belly plates are removable and can be lifted using the manipulator arm, and the engine housing is designed to tilt forward to provide servicing access without removing the engine.
Support, training and sustainment
Aardvark provides training and support options aligned to operational needs, including operator and technician training programmes, spares packages and ongoing logistics support for both short and long‑term projects. This helps ensure the platform remains mission‑ready across sustained clearance operations.
